What Are Ultrasonography and Doppler?
Ultrasonography (US) is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of organs and tissues in the body. One of its important characteristics is that it does not use ionizing radiation.
It can be used to evaluate many anatomical regions, particularly the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, thyroid, abdominal and pelvic organs and superficial soft tissues.
Doppler Ultrasonography adds information about blood flow within vessels to conventional ultrasonography. It can provide important information when evaluating arteries and veins, investigating changes in blood flow and assessing various vascular conditions.
When Is It Used?
Ultrasonography may be used to evaluate the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, thyroid, abdominal and pelvic organs and soft tissues.
Color Doppler may be used to evaluate veins and arteries, in situations where vascular blockage or circulation problems are suspected, and for other vascular examinations considered necessary by the physician.
